The Dance is Done

Last week I finally finished Anthony Powell's Dance to the Music of Time duodecology (a word that seems to have been coined just for this 12 novel sequence). I have many thoughts about the novels which I do believe are a masterpiece of English literature. But for this post I will only remark on the way the last few pages of the twelfth novel recall the opening imagery of the first, in particular with references to workmen warming themselves by a pot of burning coke as a few flakes of snow fall from the sky. This had the strange effect of making me want to start reading the books all over again, armed now with the knowledge I've gained about Nicholas Jenkins and his large network of family and friends.
